Jay Collins has been a professional touring musician, recording artist, arranger and composer for 22 years and has played the saxophone and flute with many well-known people in jazz, rock, blues and latin music. These include Levon Helm (of The Band), The Allman Brothers Band, The Gregg Allman Band, James Hunter, Jacky Terrasson, LeRoy Vinnegar, Andrew Hill, Willie Nelson and Bobby Sanabria. In addition to touring around the world with e aforementioned artists, Jay was also a United States Jazz Ambassador in 2003, and performed extensively in Eastern Europe on behalf of the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Jay received an associates degree in music from Ht. Hood Community College in Oregon, and studied jazz at the BANFF summer workshop in Canada, under the direction of Dave Holland. Jay has been a private music teacher for many years and teaches students about improvisation (jamming), reading and writing music, theory, and saxophone and flute techniques in a variety of styles.
